Good Catch 2218!
It's funny that they are trying to raise $100,000 by selling t-shirts and 1/5 scales models. Those are the only two levels of donations.
Who wrote this text on the Kickstarter page:
And most importantly, an enclosed cockpit and in-house concocted gyroscopes will provide some safety assurance and stability to a form of transportation glorified for its uninhibited and dangerous nature.
"concocted gyroscopes"? "dangerous nature"? "some safety"?

Ugh. THIS IS A SCAM! Please don't contribute any money to this. I'm working with Kickstarter right now to get it taken down. Thanks for the heads-up, and please let me know if you see any other crowdfunding projects claiming to be Lit Motors! If/when we have a legit crowdfunded project, you'll definitely hear about it from me first.

Well, I also reported the project to kickstarter. Hope it helps. But what a lame company: the "C-1 Design Team" started the project on the 29th of august and now, 2 days!!! later it's still online... Such ignorance makes me angry.....
Even if Kickstarter is not sure, they should at least suspend a project until everything is checked.

I'd consider posting this on the front page, but at the same time, I don't want to bring more attention to this project. I was surprised to see it on KickStarter, but the wording, lack of announcement in the newsletter or here on the forums really had me wonder.
I did report the campaign as well, as it's still up as of 21:58 EST. I thought KickStarter screened all these campaigns, but I guess they are dropping the ball with the increased popularity.

I reported the scammer project to CNN, with the information that their logo is abused by scammers.
And - as second reason - that it might be interesting for CNN viewers, that there are scammers on kickstarter and that kickstarter just does not help.

There were quite some sign that this is scam:
- no personal message from the Lit Motors Crew
- no adapted/new information (only copy/pastes from the lit motors website)
- Profilename: C-1 design team... knowing that lit motors would be more likely the name...
- a yahoo email-adress ??? (what a name: email@example.com)
- an unrealistic release date of "early spring 2014" - that would be in half a year! :-)
- a too low price for "one of the very first C-1": 500$ (if you reserve one on Lit Motors this costs 10'000$)
I tried out to pledge 15'000$ ... just to see what happened: the reservation fee is limited to 10'000$... that does not make sense either.
But I really don't get it: how can it be that such obvious scammers can be that long online?
Right now - still online - they have 23 backers...

still online as of 12:46 EST, and looks like they got someone else
$1,985 pledged of $100,000 goal
56 days to go
It's a holiday weekend in the US, so I'm guessing KickStarter doesn't monitor the 'reports' outside of business hours.

Well, that's what I call a free country! ;-)
It looks like everyone can put rubbish on a website with an obvious goal to betray people. One can involve, CNN, LATimes and the company helping these people and no one reacts.
That's just great! Here everything is smaller - I can call the company! I can talk to the staff. I can solve such issues actively.
I do get the impression, that no one is interested in stopping these scammers. At least: as long as they do not reach 100'000$ the money won't be collected from the backers and they are safe. But if it comes close even to 40'000 it can get nasty: the project owner could easily back his own project with 60'000$ just to collect the 40'000 from the backers... He will get his money back anyway (minus some fees).

I was informed by a friend who contacted the scammers trough kickstarted that he had getting following information:
Please keep in mind that we will have to take legal action against you if you try to damage or hurt our company and/or funding process.
C-1 Design Team

$4,742 pledged of $100,000 goal
Time to start contacting the press ...
edit: Contacted The Consumerist, which is all about protecting consumers, and has a great rep. I urge everyone to do the same thing, we need to make as much noise as possible.
I'm tempted to back it at $1, and post a comment, but not sure how much moderation there is, and if they get access to our address etc before the campaign ends.

I try my best: a friend left also a message on the facebook page off kickstarter. Soon the message was deleted.
I informed LATimes & CNN. It looks they don't care that their logos and videos are used for betraying people.
It also looks like kickstarter.com is protecting this project under all circumstances.
I also had the idea to back 1$ and then leave a message, but it looks like the C-1 Design Team is even willing to fight for ... well I can't say "rights"...
I don't get it...
